‘Memory Forest’ is from Eak’s childhood memory with his father, the time when they travelled together on a pickup truck from mountains to mountains in Fang district to sell goods to indigenous hilltribes like Mhong, Maew, Karen and Yao. The artist grew up on that truck full of flowing memory from the forest. Eak’s visual art of the forest does not only portray the landscape and the trees but also the warm shades underneath the trees he sat with his father. It encapsulates the time they rested along the way together. They were truly happy to absorb the nature. If you listen carefully, you would hear their conversation under the dark shade where the dark tone slowly fades. Eak believes that ‘Memory Forest’ in all of us will never change. It is us who grow and transform. That may be the reason he explores printings through different techniques over the course of his life to ask himself whether the happiness from the past is still there.
