ANATTA

Made for "เหนือเกล้า," or "above the head," a group exhibition in honor of the late King Rama IX and the former queen, this piece turns to anatta rather than portraiture. The Buddhist concept points to context rather than content, something above and beyond the self, the material, and samsara, echoing the exhibition's own gesture toward what stands above.

Blue carries that idea here: the color of sky, of ocean, the color closest to the black of space. The 8-bit pixel font strips the word down to its essential form, a nod to the computer age and the digital reduction of information to its barest signal.
